Dinosaurs on Wheels sets up a fund-raising page at World Bicycle Relief

When we set out to do our cross-country bike trip we heard from many who wanted to hear how we are doing and follow our progress.  It's the reason I set up this blog account.  My brother Jerry set up a Facebook page, also named Dinosaurs on Wheels (we've really embraced this theme - let us know if it's too obnoxious).  Since I am not a Facebooker, that wasn't in the cards for me.  I know, the world's on Facebook, all but me.   Some of my friends and colleagues, when I told them what we are planning, asked if we were doing this for charity.  Actually, this was not the reason for our ride, but if we could make a difference in someone else's life by raising awareness and funds for a worthy cause, we would love to do so.  What could be a better, and more apt cause than to look to change someone's life with the power of a bicycle.  World Bicycle Relief is changing lives by giving bicycles to those in dire need, making the world a bit smaller, and a bit

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, (this ain't no foolin' around)

The words of "Talking Heads" ring true as we are now if week 6?  7?  of extended lock-down in Ohio.  I was thinking of them because, as everyone likely has, I've been chewing through all of the reasonable video content on my Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video accounts. Last Saturday I happened to come upon "Stop Making Sense," Talking Heads' 1984 concert video by Jonathan Demme.  I watched it and was transformed back into the '80's.  I had no big suit like David Byrne, but I was definitely a fan.  It was great watching and listening to music that I really haven't heard in a while. With this music stuck in my head all week, I can't help applying their lyrics for "Life During Wartime" to today's circumstances.  "Heard about Houston, heard about Detroit, heard about Pittsburgh, PA."  We're all watching the news and hearing about these and other cities and how they're being hit by the virus.  Detroit especially has

Getting Ready

The maiden, laden voyage Well, with the action (or inaction) of the past few weeks of lock-down orders you would think that I would be more than ready for this upcoming trip.  Not so much. Work doesn't slow down just because you change the place you do it.  Actually, I think it takes more time to try to do your normal work load and maneuver the new rules and restrictions and try to keep in all together.  We've been blessed by having some business continue through this crisis.  Being a supplier to logistics centers, essential businesses, means that we are in turn an essential business.  We can work, but I'm trying to have everyone do it from home to maximize distance and safety.  Many of the businesses I see in our hometown of Lakewood are restaurants and bars, the types of businesses that have close to zero income during this time.  I really hope they can come back from this. So, am I crazy to leave and go for a 2-3 month bicycle journey during the middle of a c

This is the first post to my new blog.  Called Dinosaurs on Wheels, it will cover our upcoming bicycle trip across the country. The Dinosaurs are two sixty-something brothers, finally getting around to a bucket list adventure.  This trip is something usually undertaken by younger folks, with few obligations and youth on their side.  In this case we have neither.  Well, one of us doesn't have so many obligations.  My brother Jerry is a retired medical doctor, formerly of the University of Wisconsin medical system.  I'm the owner of a small company in Ohio.  Still working, kind of.  My plan is to connect from the road.  Thank goodness everyone at my company is very understanding and very competent.  It's likely, with me gone, we may thrive.  That usually happens whenever I go away.  Right before a devastating computer catastrophe... In any case, we will be riding across the country by bicycle. Hence the title, Dinosaurs on Wheels.  Actually my wife picked up a birthday ca
